English III (American Literature) is a course required for high school graduation.  In this class, we will be studying different types of reading and writing, including, but not limited to:  novels, short stories, myths, fables, legends, folklore, poetry, songs, nonfiction, biography, autobiography, and drama.

In addition to studying the different genres and formats of reading, students will be writing creatively in each of these genres, producing their own examples of each, and different types of process papers including, but not limited to:  persuasive, informative, and expository.

Since English III is American Literature, our focus will be on the American experience.  We will read primarily words that are either:  by Americans (both natural-born and immigrants) or about America.  This course will show how the American experience and the American Dream has changed and stayed constant throughout over 240 years of history.

In addition to writing for the class, student writing may also be used for, and may overlap with the MADPAW Festival, a year-end festival celebrating student achievement in Music, Arts, Dance, Poetry, And Writing (M.A.D.P.A.W.).  During this festival, any student who wishes to use his/her work for presentation may participate, provided that the work has received teacher approval.

I hope that everyone who takes this course comes away with not only a greater understanding of different types of literature, but a desire to read, write, think, and create.  If every student has work to proudly display at the MADPAW Festival, I will feel that this class has been a tremendous success.  Thank you, in advance, for your enthusiasm and participation.

I will attempt to provide links to any and all class assignments on this website.  That way, if you have missed a day, you need only to click on the link for that day, and it will take you to a page complete with all Google Slides, documents, worksheets, etc. for any day you might have missed.

These assignments will not be made available prior to the day of instruction.  In fact, it may often take up to a week for classroom assignments to post onto the website.  Thank you, in advance, for both your patience and your concern.
