2016-2017

 CREATIVE

 WRITING

Any students who attend Spring Branch Academy of Choice may participate in the MADPAW Festival.  Enrollment in Literary Genres class is encouraged, but not required.

AOC now also has the technology to record student musicians of any genre in an on-campus home studio environment.  Anyone who feels he or she has something to offer or contribute musically is encouraged to book recording sessions with teacher approval.

However, if you are not enrolled in Literary Genres class or Seize It (CESIT) for Music, Art or Film, you will need a teacher to sign off on your work for participation in the MADPAW Festival or for recording sessions.

If no teacher is available for sign-off, I will approve student projects on a case-by-case basic, by appointment.  If you are interested in being a part of MADPAW, join now by clicking the link below:

Creative Writing is an English elective CESIT class.  In this class, we will be studying different types of reading and writing, including, but not limited to:  novels, short stories, myths / fables, legends / folklore, poetry / songs, nonfiction / biography / autobiography, and drama.  In addition to studying the different genres and formats of reading, students will be writing creatively in each of these genres, producing their own examples of each.

In addition to writing for the class, student writing may also be used for, and may overlap with the MADPAW Festival, a year-end festival celebrating student achievement in Music, Arts, Dance, Poetry, And Writing (M.A.D.P.A.W.).  During this festival, any student who wishes to use his/her work for presentation may participate, provided that the work has received teacher approval.

I hope that everyone who takes this course comes away with not only a greater understanding of different types of literature, but a desire to read, write, think, and create.  If every student has work to proudly display at the MADPAW Festival, I will feel that this class has been a tremendous success.  Thank you, in advance, for your enthusiasm and participation.

I will attempt to provide links to any and all class assignments on this website.  That way, if you have missed a day, you need only to click on the link for that day, and it will take you to a page complete with all Google Slides, documents, worksheets, etc. for any day you might have missed.

These assignments will not be made available prior to the day of instruction.  In fact, it may often take up to a week for classroom assignments to post onto the website.  Thank you, in advance, for both your patience and your concern.

WHAT IS THIS CLASS?

This year marks the beginning of a new tradition at Academy of Choice. From the school that brought you such creative endeavors as the Art Car, the Poetry Slam, and field trips to enjoy Music, Drama, and the Arts, comes a festival that combines elements of all of these fields into one interactive festival:  MADPAW (Music, Art, Dance, Poetry And Writing).

Modelled after such events as SXSW, Lollapallooza, Coachella, and Austin City Limits, MADPAW is an interactive festival combining performance stages for music, an interactive art and film exhibit, dramatic and humorous skits, and both written and spoken-word poetry for a day-long celebration of student achievement at Academy of Choice.  I would like to see as many students as possible sharing and contributing to this first annual event.  Hope to see you there.
